Drop outs, Slow Connection
With the introduction of the NBN we are now faced with an issue called ” Dropouts”. These can be rather disappointing due to the fact we pay considerable amounts to a service provider and expect a good service. Especially when streaming TV over the internet and the service just “Drops out ” at an inconevienient moment in the program. Then having to wait for the modem to re sync having missed a significant moment in the program.
Who’s Fault
We all like to blame the NBN or the service provider, but this is not always the case. There are several reasons it may be your home wiring that is the problem and the most likely cause.
- Interference from other cables in the house
- Old telephone sockets, corroded, badly connected
- Denigrated old cable or cable not run to new standards for high speed NBN modem connection.
- Too many joins in cable, or bad joints in the cable. Referred to as Taps or star joints
Under the new regulations that were introduced years ago by the government when the industry was deregulated, the Telco is only responsible for the connection to the first socket or building entry point. This means you are responsible for all the wiring in the house which has to be installed to specific regulations covering that work. So if your wiring is responsible for the dropouts your provider isn’t responsible.
What we do
We test your service to make sure it isn’t the provider at fault with an isolation test and a test from your modem then compare the results. So if needed we can upgrade the connection from the building entry point to your modem with a single straight through cable and then reconnect your old telephone cables from that point so as they won’t interfere with your service for NBN customers. We will use data grade cable, run so as to keep interference to an absolute minimum. We can do this at a cost that won’t break the bank and will make your NBN experience much more rewarding.
